Teenage Girl Stoned to Death for Loving the Wrong Boy Sunday, May 6, 2007

Posted by Henry in atheism, fundamentalism, honor killing, Iraq, Islam, Kurdish, love, religion.

I am completely horrified and saddened by the barbaric, despicable act of the so-called honour-killing in the names of Islam.

I am also maddened.

This Daily Mail report, originally found at Richard Dawkins’ website, is something I cannot digest. A 17 year old Kurdish girl of a minority Islamic sect was stoned to her death by her family and tribesmen simply because she was in love with a Sunni boy, and failed to return home one night.

A video of it is floating around the internet. I have not had the courage to watch it.

This is tribalism and religious blindness at their worst. Utterly barbaric beyond words.

I can understand better now what Sam Harris means by saying that the Muslim world is comparable to the 14th century Christian Europe.

I am proud to be an atheist.

ps. Note that there are couple of video still images on the websites. I decided not to put them here. I don’t see the points. They are too gruesome.

May the girl rest in peace.

I’ve heard of this, and wouldn’t want to see it either. I heard of it because someone was using it as justification for the Iraq war, as if the two had anything to do with each other.

first you say “minority religion” then you say “Islam.” Hmm, i don’t get it.
this incident is horrible; it shouldn’t even happen. but
it’s funny how your conclusion doesn’t even add up!

Thanks for pointing that out. By “minor religion” I meant a sect within Islam. I have updated the content accordingly.

Bush made a mistake going into Iraq. We should have just nuked it. It would have been way cheaper and safer. The Muslims want a Holy War so lets give them one. Just Nuke all the savages back to oblivion.

If you are an atheist, then you believe she wouldn’t really be resting at all, so from your viewpoint it would be hard for her to rest in peace being that nothing happens when you die.

If theres no God, then does that mean that the universe created itself?
1. Does it mean that matter created itself and set the rules for itself?
2. Does that mean that earth just happened to have dinosaurs and ancient plant life that died and gave us fossil fuels?
3. Does that mean that the earth just happened to have a 23.5 degree axis which allows parts of our planet to cool off so no one part of the earth becomes uninhabitably hot?
4. Does it mean that we just happened to have the right amount of oxygen (about 24%) in our atmosphere so that fire didn’t become an uncontrollable blaze if our atmosphere was even 50% oxygen?
5. Is it by chance that matter decided to create living organisms from lifeless matter?

Forget about which religion is right or wrong and start agreeing that some sort of intelligent being created the universe. When you look at all the factors going into creating this universe, the planet earth, and life in general, suggesting that it created itself makes you look like a fool. People who think like me> Atheist > People who follow religion by the book.
