i think it’s a testament to the tolerance of christian and the immature mindset of muslims.
you should be proud of this.
Or this might be where the respective societies are. Remember it wasn’t that long ago (at least, in terms of how long civilizations last) that one could be killed for saying the wrong thing about Christianity.
Perhaps in a 100 years or so, this will be true in industrialized Muslim societies as well?

perhaps. but i doubt it as there are a lot more paradigms involved today in islam’s “evolution”… than there were for christianity.
small example:
christianity had an internal struggle between the catholic church and the protestants.
Islam’s battle is multifaceted: terrorists, orthodox, conservatives, moderates, liberals. all vying for the soul of islam with the orthodox having the lion’s share for centuries.
couple that with a “war on terror” and now you have a political power play influencing the outcome

i don’t know whether to say this is about political correctness or not, but is it not strange that books like the qu’ran and the bible, which are close to many thousands of hearts, rightly or wrongly, they are always made fun of in the name of freedom of speach and art, which is a belief in itself. now if you are an advocate of freedom of speach, you believe in the right to say what ever you like, doesn’t matter who gets hurt emotinally, after all its only their feelings. but when those religious poeple who feel offended also try to share thier views, not always in the stereotypical violent way, and me and most muslims and christians i know are proof of that, they get told to shut up, as they are getting in the way of freedom of speech….. urm hello…doesn’t that work both ways? i agree that some muslims do react in a way which is quite scary, but they are a few, just louder thats all, unfortunatly. now as a muslim that image above does upset me, and it makes me feel sad that people are willing to hide behind freedom of speech in order to use it as a tool to attack the sentiments of the groups of people that they are insecure about, no matter where that insecurity comes from. while some muslims and extreamist of other faiths are using religion as a tool to have power and oppress people, the freedom of speach tool is being used to create an unrest, and hatred towards people with a religous belief. lets not forget history, where it was this fear, generated by speech and media at first, of a particular group, that eventually led to one of the worst possible crimes in the universe. and yes Hitler was not a muslim, just in case there are some of you who think islam is the source of all evil. to come to think about that, neither was Stalin,or Mugabe. POINT MADE. but please you all have the right to completely dismiss it if it doesn’t agree with your thoughts, freedom of thought afterall. Now it’s a shame the Qu’ran is not a celebrity, at least then it would be sueing the makers such invaluble art, for defaming it. oh by the way i had absolutly no idea that the western civilised society had learned anger managment, that nothing in world could make them angry now…its a shame the non-muslim adults that i’ve been working with haven’t been taught this yet…maybe they have been hanging around fundamentalist….
um im a catholic and unlike most of you im only 13. I think right now there is alot of religouse intalernts. Even with me and my friends there are people who are my friends that wont hang out with another one of my friends because they are muslium or jewish. But there is also christian intolernts like when one of my Muslum neighbors called everything about the Christian faith a lie and said that muslums were the best. And my brother replied with some religous slur and gauss who got in more trouble. The cathlic did because right now every one is sensitive to the muslums. that is very annoying!…what i am getting at is that this convo shoudnt excist because muslums are exsactly the same as cathlics or hindus jewish ppl and budist. the only major differnce is our beleifes and who knows which group will be right. we could all be right in the end. so my ending statment is this talk is stupid because it is just further pushing religouse intalernts

Mutual respect is a beautiful concept, but even when I am surrounded by Islam, I have yet to see a sentiment that give a damn grain of respect to freethinkers.
You ask for respect, I can understand. I just wonder whence cometh the ‘mutual’ bit. 🙂

Your comment is the most pretentious thing i have ever read in my entire life. You have missed the entire point of the comic. It is merely commenting on contemporary society in which it is socially acceptable to poke fun at the catholic church, however when this “fun” (and i use that term loosely) is directed at those of the muslim faith there is outrage. You talk about mutual respect, however i saw a t-shirt the other day on which was written “Every time you see a rainbow God is having gay sex.” Just imagine how you would feel if that said Allah instead of God. Every religion gets some form of belittlement from society, get over it. Stop thinking that Islam is above such things because no religion is.
What do i consider valuable? The right to free speech. Know what that entails? Comics like the above. Mutual respect in the way you have portrayed it does not exist, this isn’t utopia.
Fatima, i agree. However as a religion is a representation of its followers, Islam is not portrayed as it should be. It’s pricks like the above who think they are above societies discrimination which give Islam a bad reputation.
I think that the important thing to remember is that while it is poltically incorrect to poke fun at Islam and not Christians, it is also acceptable in a disgusting number of groups to say hateful things about Muslims or Islam under the guise that it’s “true”. Like, and don’t tell me you don’t hear these things, the least horrifying, and most common, examples are “Muslims hate America” “Muslims are all extremists.” That’s why I, a white girl, am offended when there are jokes about Muslims and not when there are jokes about Christians, because when one is the minority and is made fun of it can be (and is in our country today) symptomatic of real hatred and fear by non-Muslims who see them (incorrectly) as terrorists. There are actual hate crimes and harrassment committed against Muslims by otherwise “good Christians” every day in this country. That is why it is not okay to “make fun” of Muslims but it is okay to make fun of Christians. And freedom of speech is important folks, as Voltaire said “I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will fight to thedeath for your right to say it.”
There are, of course, people who commit terrible acts in the name of Allah, as are there people who murder in the name of Christ (recent examples – abortion clinic bombings – regardless of how you feel about abortion whether abortion is murder – I think everyone can agree it is murder to bomb someone (even if you think it’s justified)). It is extremism we need to be wary of, and we need to be wary of allowing fear of terrorism in general of turning to hatred of Muslims in general, because “terrorist” and “Muslim” are not synonymous. And when Christians are persecuted again because of their religion, then I will no longer think it is funny when people poke fun at them. Probably.

What are you talking about? I am going to assume you were born in the past 10 to 15 years, and never really heard jokes till after 9/11/01.
On another note,
I like the comic, I think its an accurate portrayal of how Islam is portrayed today. There is video game, Little Big Planet, that is being recalled before its release from stores, because one of the songs in the soundtrack has a snippet of the Koran in background lyrics of the song. People complained, and Sony, its publisher, buckled under the pressure. I cannot site my source right now, but Google it if you must.

None of you understand this, its not about hate at all, its about our society’s stupidity. It’s about double standards.
You put a holy bible in a toilet in a museum, its symbolic of the decline of religion. (what it really does symbolize)
You put a Koran(muslim bible) in a toilet in a museum, people will say that the artist is disrespecting muslims and its racism, lets burn him at the stake. (people just give into the society “no”s)
Since the bible is the majority its okay to say its declining, but to say that the koran(minority) is declining is racism. So this piece is saying how people are not equalising they are reversing. instead of hurting minority’s they are fostering them and telling the majority to piss off. All because they are afraid to say no to a minority cause its a “hate crime”

Who’s saying you can’t desecrate a religious book? It is covered by the 1st amendment, does not matter what the book is, it is completely legal. This is nothing more than “we’re the victim” propaganda by the powerful and wealthy christian right.

It is absolutely a double standard. Both should be considered “art.” It’s called free speech. Muslims need to get over their own complexes. Christians need to get over theirs.

Is this intended to represent the conditions in the U.S. or worldwide? Because, contrary to what “Argent” claims, Islam is the largest religion in the world. On the worldwide scale, demonizing tolerance of Muslims because of a “favored minority” simply cannot be used. The tendency to vehemently assert supposed superiority is not unique to any religion; it is inherent to almost all of them. The anti-Muslim sentiment, particularly within the states, is a product of rampant fear, ignorance, misinformation, and negative media portrayal of Islam. The “controversy” about Obama is a explicit example of the sensationalism. It is not possible for one religion to be innately supreme. Religion should not be a weapon. I believe that people who truly understand their own religion would agree with me, although I am not at all religious. The actions of individuals, or even of large groups, cannot be attributed to an entire demographic of people who share only a single characteristic. Most Christians would be greatly offended to be instantly associated with the Westboro Baptist Church because of their faith. Prejudice has never done anything to improve human society, and it is the greatest handicap of thought. Using any belief system to justify hate makes a disgraceful statement about humans in general, regardless of which religions are involved.
Always remember to preach tolerance intolerantly 😉
